Roast & Flavour profiles

Roast Profile

Medium-Dark Roast

A versatile medium- dark roast, developed primarily for espresso. The Brazilian component creates a smooth, nutty foundation with low acidity, while the higher-altitude Burundian coffee contributes brightness and fruit-led complexity.

A rounded and approachable blend with flavours of caramel, walnut and damson. Rich caramel sweetness and roasted nuts form the base, complemented by a subtle dark-fruit character from the Burundian coffee.

Cup Profile

  • Body: Medium-full, smooth and rounded
  • Acidity: Balanced, with gentle fruit-led brightness
  • Sweetness: High, with rich caramel tones
  • Finish: Lingering, nutty and subtly fruity

Best Brewing Methods

  • Espresso: The intended brewing method, producing a rich, balanced shot with caramel sweetness and gentle fruit acidity.
  • Flat white or cappuccino: Its strong caramel and walnut character carries particularly well through milk.
  • AeroPress: Creates a smooth, concentrated cup while preserving the damson fruitiness.
  • Moka pot: Emphasises the blend’s body, roasted nuts and caramelised sweetness.
  • French press: Produces a fuller texture with a rounded, comforting finish.
Description

Cold Start's House Blend brings together two distinct origins for a medium-dark roast built for espresso. Izuba hails from Burundi's high-altitude hills, where smallholder farmers grow fruit-forward coffee prized for its brightness. Balancing it out is coffee from Brazil's Santos Baixada, the low-lying coastal region near the historic Santos port, known for smooth, low-acid, nutty character that's a staple of great espresso blends.

This mixed-variety pairing delivers a rounded cup full of caramel sweetness, roasted walnut, and a subtle damson fruitiness — a reliable, high-quality coffee that anchors the lineup.
